HPS Update - November 4th
Hello HPS Families!
We hope you have had a wonderful weekend! I’m sure that everyone is looking forward to the upcoming Fall Break next week. A reminder that there is no school from November 11th to 15th, we look forward to seeing students back at school on November 18th! In the meantime, looking ahead to next week there is lots on the go and we have some important dates to share with you:
Photos for Remembrance Day Bulletin Board - For Remembrance Day we will be creating a High Park Remembrance Day bulletin board at the front of the school outside of the office. We are asking families to submit pictures of veterans who have a connection to the families of our school for incorporation into this board. Please email a digital copy of the photo to Mrs Wray at email@example.com by November 1st for use in creating this board. If you emailed any photos last year we already have them ready to go up so you don’t need to send them again. If you have a new picture to send in, please ensure that it is clearly labeled on the back with the student’s name so we can return it afterwards.
Remembrance Day Assembly - Our Remembrance Day Assembly will be held on November 8th at 10:45 in the gym. Our grade 6 classes will be taking the lead on this assembly and have already been hard at work preparing. If you would like to join us please feel free to do so. We will have chairs available for parents on the sides of the gym. Please enter through the 5-9 doors which will be opened at 10:30, shortly after recess.
Grade 9 Take Our Kids to Work - Students in Grade 9 will be participating in Take Our Kids to Work on November 6th. Please see the information that was sent home from teachers for more information about the process around Take Our Kids to Work. If you have questions please email Ms Belseth (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Mrs Paruk (email@example.com).
Alberta Art Gallery Traveling Display - The first installment of the Alberta Art Gallery Travelling Art Exhibition has arrived! The title is Storylines: Comic Art in Alberta featuring 5 different artists from around Alberta. It will be on display in the library starting next week until the first week in December. If you are interested in popping by to take a look please do so. Classes will be coming by to tour the exhibit during the day as part of their normal library blocks.
Family Conversation Starters - “What did you do at school today?” “Nothing”... This is how many conversations around the dinner table are for many families each night, I know that it does in my house from time to time. We wanted to take this opportunity to share a list of some conversation starters that help to probe for specifics when you talk about your child’s day with them. You can access the PDF of the document by going to https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8LsaNuE-3HWMlBlcWt2V0lVUG1QQ1B2UW5MZzFVSDF3cmJB/view?usp=sharing.
Tabs for Wheels – Along with a local non-profit group, we are now collecting tabs from aluminium cans to support the purchase of motorized scooters for those in need. This is a great way for children to get involved in helping others in our community! Please send tabs with your children who will be able to place these in our collection bucket in the office. Along with other local schools, we’re hoping to reach a goal of 1 million tabs this year! Let’s help this great joint effort!
As always, should you have any questions please feel free to contact me at the school at 780-963-2222 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or stop by the office!
Have a great week!
